Daffodil Greetings

In the long slog to Spring, I had some very welcome news from my garden. I was surprised and thrilled to see a lonely Daffodil blooming on the side of my house.

A beautiful golden cup in a bed of sleeping sprouts greeted me as I went about pruning my clematises. There are other shoots with buds throughout my yard. But this is the first bloom of the year. So welcome.

In other news from my garden, the Daphne flowers are beginning to open, and they will soon send their fragrance across my back deck. And this is after we had such hard frosts that denuded my Daphne back in December.

Yes, I am finally pruning after such nasty wind and rain and snow storms that took up two weeks. Unfortunately, more are on their way tomorrow. But for now, I’m sending Sunny Daffodil Greetings to you all.

  1. Hi Yael,

    So nice to meet you!!

You know, even if it was just that one, single daffodil growing in my garden, that would make me very happy as it is all I would need to let me know that spring was, indeed, on its way! ‘Daphne’ is a Greek name meaning “laurel”. In Greek mythology she was a nymph turned into a laurel tree by her father in order that she might escape the pursuit of Apollo. We use bay leaves or laurel leaves quite a lot in our cooking as they lend a most aromatic essence to the flavour of each dish.

Thanks for stopping by Poppy View and hope to see you again, soon!

  2. We had our first daffodil about a week ago and now it has been joined by dozens. Their cheerful yellow blooms bring a smile whether in rain or sun! First glimpses of Spring are so special! Smiles…Susan

  3. How refreshing to see a picture of a daffodil. Are temperatures will be around 0 this weekend and we still have lots and lots of snow.

I love gardening! I am so happy that you visited Beauty Observed so that I could find your blog!

    I will be back!
