We are having quite a roller coaster ride to Spring. Just two weeks ago I showed you sprouts that are coming up in my garden for Daffodils, Tulips and even some blooms on my Snowdrops and Hellebores. Yet last week we were covered in snow, and temperatures were dipping into the low teens. I barely managed to get out of town to visit Southern California with freezing rain expected in the forecast. Yet, here we are again this week with the snow all melted and new blooms are appearing.

My Raja loves to go outside. He nearly decompensated when we had snow last week and he could barely get off of the porch. Now he’s back getting on his bench, hopping the fence and lying in wait underneath his Rhodie.  (For a larger image, click through once and then click through again for the large image.)

My Crocuses are blooming. So far we have yellow ones and the purple one out near the sidewalk. A couple of weeks ago those were also just tiny little sprouts, and were covered by snow last week. We will soon have white ones and some pretty pink and purple stripy ones. A neighbor down the street has a whole patch of Crocuses under his Maple that are in full bloom right now. They are gorgeous.

Here’s a bud that is already appearing on one of my Daffodils. Last week it was covered by snow. And the week before it was just barely a sprout.

My Hellebores are now in full bloom and beautiful. Last week was snowy and the week before that they were blooming nicely but not as full as today.

My Tulips are up a lot more than they were two weeks ago. Last week, of course, they were completely covered in snow.

My Pieris is just starting to bloom. We have one right by our front door, and it is so fragrant. I just love it. We have one near our backdoor too, but it has not shown any blooms yet.

I haven’t checked my Forsythia recently, but I imagine the buds are getting fatter on that too. The buds on my Red Flowering Currents are definitely fat, and I can hardly wait until they bloom next month.

I did start pruning a few more shrubs last week. And as soon as my Hardy Fuchsias start the show some shoots, I will prune those. I can definitely prune my Roses when I managed to get to them. Now if only it would stop raining, I could get out. And if those winter storms stop rolling through the North, Midwest and East, they can all get out too.

      Thanks for coming by. Boy, the weather is changing rapidly here. One day sunny, one day cold, and another day rainy. At least we are half way through February with March and April to come. My favorite time.

  3. Your flowers look beautiful, Yael. I went out today in between rain showers and saw that my crocus and Chinese witch hazel are blooming. I haven’t seen a single daffodil of mine, but the neighbors have buds all over theirs. I noticed buds on my hellebore and little winter aconite bulbs, but no blooms yet. Honestly, it’s been so rainy I haven’t been venturing out into the garden very much. Hope it dries out a bit and the sun comes out soon 🙂

      I envy you for having a witch hazel. I had one in Olympia that bloomed in August and then again in February/March. We don’t have room for one here, but I keep looking for a nice compact one. I am now itching to get outside, but with storms like this week, that isn’t going to happen.

  4. What a lovely thought to give us who are still under so much snow. Lol. Really we will get our turn at Spring, soon I hope. It amazes me how these little crocuses can poke through just about anything. Driving a drill right in the centre

    It’s a miracle isn’t it that those little crocus and daffodils can push their way up through the snow and flower!

  13. Seeing the arrival of spring in your garden reminds me that spring really will arrive eventually in Massachusetts, although I checked my garden journal and saw that for the past two years we had snow on and off all through March!

  18. It has been beautiful here for the last few days and I have been working like a trooper cleaning up for Spring. I am starting to see lots of life also, but a little behind you. I trimmed my Hellebores back to the ground and new growth is popping up fast! Thanks so much for sharing with SYC.
