January Sunrise

IMG_1646It’s barely 8 am and I saw my opportunity with a beautiful January Sunrise this morning to take some shots.  Since New Years we have had the coldest temperatures this winter with a hard freeze and temperatures barely climbing to freezing by noon.  Brrrr.  But this morning a new weather system is moving in with warmer air and a little precipitation.  But now there are beautiful fluffy clouds and a gorgeous sunrise.

IMG_1629A beautiful glow on the horizon.

IMG_1654Kitties can play in the garden without being brought in every 10 minutes because it is too cold to stay out long.

IMG_1624A glow through the trees.

IMG_1639This Sweet Gum tree, which still had some leaves up until New Years, has now lost the rest with the frigid cold we had, and bare branches are visible amid the pink clouds in the background.

IMG_1626And a large bird or squirrel nest is quite visible now.

IMG_1621And bright first light is hitting my garden.

IMG_1656The sun now up, casts shadows of my rain chain on my house.

A perfect start to a perfect January Day in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Happy January 2013!

    1. Hi Beth,

Thanks for coming by and thanks for your comment. I’m psyched for a new year and the chance to get growing again. Already getting seed catalogues.

      Happy New Year

  1. I have loved waking up on the midcoast of Maine these last few mornings as the colors are stunning. Sadly, they don’t last very long as light changes quickly this time of year.

  2. I know warmer weather is welcome along with sunshine. I don’t mind cold as long as the sun shines. We’re probably in similar zones (8b here) but our climates are very different. Do you get snow?

    1. Nell Jean,

Thanks for coming by. We are also Zone 8b (or so they say). And we do get snow. We have had a little this year, but none has stuck so far beyond an hour or so. Hope that you are having a great week.

  3. Thanks for linking to Garden Tuesday! It is supposed to get into the 70’s this week, that is going to completely confuse my plants!

    1. I am envious of your weather. It is raining/sleeting/snowing off and on last night and this morning and is in the high 30’s brrr. I can sure see how your plants could get confused.

    1. Hi Kaye,

Thanks and thanks for stopping by. It is funny how quickly the light changes at sunrise. No sooner had I finished taking several photos, than the vista of the first one had completely changed. I love dawn photos.

  4. Love your beautiful sunrise! It has been record breaking cold here. Brrrr! These old bones are not loving it. Just been spoiled the last few years with mild temps and hardly no snow. Sure do need the moisture and the snow has been gorgeous! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
    Hugs,
