Summertime, Summer Fruits And Summer Flowers

It’s Summertime. Summer fruits and summer flowers are here. This is the time I live for, when the wonderful summer fruits – strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, apricots and peaches are to be found. And an abundance of flowers are in my garden.

We are so excited that our strawberries are starting to produce and gave us a whole strainer full two days in a row. My blueberries have some berries on them, as do my evergreen huckleberries. Father’s Day we went to a strawberry festival and had some wonderful strawberry shortcake.  This gives me some inspiration for my own strawberries.  We will also be freezing some for later use. 

An array of summer flowers are in my garden. Here is one of my final peonies. This pink beauty is a new one I still have in a pot.

 
In my volcano strip, the Knifophia is throwing out a single bloom – so far.

 

While in another part of my front garden are my baptisia.

Two hardy geraniums I just planted – Johnson’s Blue

And Little Monster.

Several Daylilies are now blooming. Here are this vivid orange one

And a yellow one just beginning to open.  Just look at all the buds waiting to bloom.

My tomatoes are getting ever bigger and have quite a few blooms, but no fruit set as yet.

My pink kalmia has started blooming now.  The shrub has become rather overgrown and I will need to prune it quite a bit after it finishes blooming.

Here is a bumble bee on my white campanula.

I just purchased this Red Dragon Persicaria and haven’t even figured out where I am going to plant it yet.  Yes, I’m guiltiy of lust buying, too.

This yellow foliage spirea has just begun blooming.  It is also still in a pot, but at least I know where I am going to plant this one.

  1. Delicious looking strawberries! That’s a pretty decent harvest. Love the ‘Johnson’s Blue’ Geranium and that Spirea with the yellow foliage. My favourite today though is definitely that pretty pink Kalmia. It’s just so lovely.

      Thanks. Those strawberries are very sweet and flavorful. We got them as a test variety, so I don’t even know if they got to marker.

      I just love my kalmia. I had never had one before we moved here.

    I have spirea! I purchased a few small bushes years ago and they are enormous now. I love them…I sure got my money’s worth! : )

      Thanks. I really enjoy my spirea. We have three of them, each one a different kind. Two are yellow with red flowers. I am planning on putting one of them next to my dark elderberry. Our oldest one is huge and I have to keep hard pruning it. This year I didn’t get to and it will be really big.

  5. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my Garden Party post. Your flowers are beautiful–peonies are my favorite. My grandmother always grew beautiful ones. I’ve got lots of green strawberries on my plants right now, and my kids are looking forward to picking them when they turn red enough. Yours gave you a great harvest!

      Sorry you have not had luck growing berries. I am sure it really gets hot in the summer there…..perhaps in a sheltered location? Still, I am sure there are things I can’t grow that you can….like cacti and a host of other plants.

        Sorry your post got buried somehow. Having the strawberries is wonderful and so was the festival we went to. They should produce for another two or three weeks before trailing off. I Love this time of year.

  9. My peonies looked like that last week, now after a week of sometimes driving rain, they’re all on the ground. ;-( I love the blooms on the kalmia shrub – it’s new to me, does it get really big?

    1. Jamie. Thanks for dropping by. The kalmia can get fairly big. However when we moved in, the previous owner had hard pruned it since it is just outside a window. We have kept it low and under control.
